State Minister Seiji Kihara Meets with Administrator of the UNDP
On November 24, commencing at 12:30 p.m. for approximately 90 minutes, Mr. Seiji Kihara, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a working lunch with H.E. Miss Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), during her visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. State Minister Kihara welcomed Administrator Clark’s third visit to Japan this year and stated that Japan would closely coordinate with the UNDP, an important partner of Japan, for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and also for the success of the next Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) which would be held in Africa for the first time. Moreover, stating that Japan would cooperate with the UNDP for common important issues such as health, disaster risk reduction, and climate change, and also for combining humanitarian and development assistance toward the World Humanitarian Summit, State Minister Kihara requested Administrator Clark’s cooperation for increasing the visibility of Japanese aid and for increasing Japanese staff in the UNDP.
2. In response, Administrator Clark expressed her gratitude for the assistance from Japan and stated that she would enhance cooperation with Japan for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and for combining humanitarian and development assistance. Moreover, Administrator Clark stated that she would further cooperate with Japan for increasing Japanese staff in the UNDP.
