Tenth Senior Officials Meeting of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue
1. On November 24, the tenth Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
2. This meeting is part of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, a framework for Japan and five Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan) to cooperate with each other for dealing with common issues of the region. In the meeting, representatives from each country join together to discuss the current situation of regional cooperation and future issues.
3. In this meeting, Mr. Toshihiro Aiki, Special Representative in charge of Central Asia (Ambassador), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will participate from Japan while vice-foreign minister level officials are scheduled to participate from the Central Asian countries.
4. MOFA will follow-up with the previous visit to Central Asia by Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan, through the SOM, and will also make preparations for the Sixth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the “Central Asia plus Japan” to be held in 2016.
