Parliamentary Election in the Kyrgyz Republic
(Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Kawamura)
1. The Government of Japan welcomes that the parliamentary election in the Kyrgyz Republic was peacefully and successfully conducted on October 4 (Sun).
2. Concerning this election, international election observation missions including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) released a positive evaluation stating that the election campaign was conducted in a generally peaceful environment.
3. The Government of Japan provided electronic equipment for automation of voter’s identification process by a grant aid through the UNDP to ensure fair and transparent election, which is highly appreciated by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
4. The Government of Japan expects the swift formation of a new government to take place in the Kyrgyz Republic under the elected parliament, and for all political forces to join hands with a view to promoting the stability and development of the country based on the principles of democracy and constitutional order.
