Emergency Grant Aid to Myanmar for Education in Response to the Flood Disaster
1. On October 2, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid amounting to USD 10 million (approximately JPY 1.2 billion) to the field of education in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in response to the flood disasters occurring since July 16. This grant aid is included in the JPY 5 billion assistance package the Government of Japan recently announced in response to requests from Myanmar.
2. The assistance is for implementing the reconstruction/restoration of schools, distribution of study kits, and holding workshops for disaster risk reduction education through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Thus, it is expected that the learning environment for children and students in the most affected areas will be swiftly prepared.
