Japan-Germany Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk
On September 25, commencing at 5:45 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Germany.
An overview of the conference is as follows:
1. At the beginning, Foreign Minister Steinmeier stated regarding Japan’s efforts concerning legislation for peace and security that he was pleased by another step of progress Japan had made amid the situation where there are opinions that Japan and Germany should bear larger responsibility in the international community. Minister Kishida expressed his gratitude for the evaluation and gave an explanation that the legislation for peace and security is for the protection of the safety of the Japanese people and at the same time for further contributions to the international community. Minister Kishida stated that he would like to contribute to the peace and security of the world through cooperation between Japan and Germany.
2. Moreover, the two ministers exchanged opinions on the situation in which many refugees from the Middle East have flooded into Europe and shared the view that they would maintain close coordination and look into what they can do to assist the refugees.
