“Green Climate Fund Readiness Support Workshop for Small Island Developing States” to be Held

1. On September 14-16 in Tokyo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will jointly hold the “Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Support Workshop for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).” The workshop’s participants will include officials of National Designated Agencies (NDAs) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) from 16 countries, including SIDS in the Oceania region, and 8 relevant organizations.
2. During the workshop, the GCF Secretariat will explain the requirements and processes to utilize GCF, for which Japan resolved to donate 1.5 billion USD in May of this year(PDF), in order to develop proposals for addressing climate change. Discussions on how to overcome challenges the participating countries and organizations have faced in filling the requirements will also be held based on the experiences they have had.
3. There will also be presentations by Japanese companies on their advanced technologies that will contribute to small island states’ measures to address climate change.
