Terrorist Attacks in Sinai Peninsula, Egypt (Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Kawamura)

1. Japan deeply deplores the terrorist attacks against military checkpoints in North Sinai, which caused many victims among Egyptian soldiers in July 1 (same day in Japan time). Japan expresses its condolences to their families and extends its heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured.
2. Acts of terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan resolutely condemns terrorism in all its forms. Japan expresses its solidarity with the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and its people.
3. The Government of Japan hopes that security in Egypt will be stabilized promptly and will actively support Egypt's efforts for establishment and development of a democratic society as well as realization of economic and social stability.
