Emergency Grant Aid to the Pacific Island Countries in response to the Cyclone Disaster

1. On March 27, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid of 1.24 million US dollars (approximately 150 million Japanese yen) to the Pacific Island Countries (Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands and Kiribati) in response to the cyclone disaster.

2. Through this aid, emergency humanitarian assistance in such areas as health and nutrition, water and sanitation, education, food, shelter and emergency medical care will be extended in cooperation with UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), World Food Programme (WFP) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

(For reference) Japan has provided the following assistance to Vanuatu thus far

(1) Emergency Relief Goods (equivalent to 20 million JPY)

(2) Dispatch of the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team
