Seventh Round of Negotiations on Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement
1. The seventh round of negotiations on Japan-EU Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) was held in Brussels from March 17 to 19.
2. The meeting was attended by, on the Japanese side, Mr. Keiichi Hara, Director of the European Policy Division, European Affairs Bureau and other representatives, and on the EU side, Mr. Julian Wilson, Head of Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand Division and other representatives.
3. At the meeting, the two sides advanced discussion and further progress was made toward convergence of their positions on some areas of co-operation. In addition, two sides discussed the overall content and deepened their understanding on each other’s positions.
4. The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Tokyo in April.
