Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida Meets with Vice-President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba


On March 9, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba who is on his visit to Japan. An overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. Minister Kishida welcomed the visit to Japan by Vice-President Cabrisas, who has contributed for the enhancement of the relationship between Japan and Cuba. Foreign Minister Kishida also stated that he would like to continue to enhance the relationship with Cuba in a wide range of areas and to hold candid discussions in lighe of the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Japanese Keicho Mission in Cuba, which marked the beginning of exchanges between Japan and Cuba, last year.
2. Vice-President Cabrisas appreciated the cordial bilateral relations of both countries indicated by mutual visits of high-level officials as well as cultural events held last year celebrating 400th anniversary of exchanges between Japan and Cuba. Vice-President Cabrisas also gave an explanation on the revision of the Foreign Investment Law in Cuba and on the Special Economic Development Zone of Mariel and stated that he expected an enhancement of economic relations between the two countries through exchanges of opinions with Japanese enterprises to be held during his visit to Japan.
3. The two parties also exchanged opinions on the bilateral relationship and regional/international situations.
