Visit to Japan by Mr. Hervé Ladsous, PKOs, UN Secretariat

1. Mr. Hervé Ladsous, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations (PKOs), United Nations (UN) Secretariat, will visit Japan from Monday, January 12th to Friday, January 16th at the joint invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters, Cabinet Office.
2. During his stay in Japan, Under-Secretary-General Ladsous will exchange views with senior officials of the Government of Japan who are in charge of PKO-related matters. He will also deliver a special lecture at the “Sixth International Peace Cooperation Symposium,” hosted by the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters, Cabinet Office.
3. Japan attaches great importance to the follow-up from the summit meeting on UN PKOs held last September and the on-going strategic review of UN peace operations. It will be very meaningful to exchange views on these issues with Under-Secretary-General Ladsous at this juncture.
4. This visit will further strengthen coordination with the UN towards proactive contributions to UN PKOs by Japan.
