Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Kuni Sato on the Parliamentary Elections of the Republic of Moldova

1. The International Election Observation Mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) announced its preliminary findings and conclusions on December 1 of the Republic of Moldova parliamentary election held November 30, stating that the election process was generally well administered. A similar report was received from the observers sent from Japan, and thus Japan acknowledges that this parliamentary election was conducted in a peaceful manner as a whole.

2. Hoping that the new administration to be inaugurated in Moldova will address the various issues it faces for its nation’s stability and development, Japan intends to work to further strengthen Japan-Moldova relations.
