Summary of the First Round of the Negotiations for a Japan-Turkey Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)

1. The first round of the negotiations for a Japan-Turkey Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was held from Monday, December 1 to Tuesday, December 2 in Tokyo.

2. The meeting was attended by, on the Japanese side, Mr. Toshiro Suzuki, Ambassador in charge of International Trade and Economic Affairs (Chief Negotiator) and representatives from other relevant ministries, and on the Turkish side, Mr. Murat Yapici, Director-General for the EU Affairs (Chief Negotiator) and representatives from other relevant departments.

3. At the round, both sides exchanged their views on the method of negotiations and a broad range of negotiating areas such as Trade in Goods and Services.

4. Both sides decided to work on scheduling the dates of the second round of negotiations to be held in Ankara through diplomatic channels.
