Ms. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, will participate in UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)
1. From 6 to 10 November, Ms. Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO will visit Japan to take part in UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development to be co-organized by the Government of Japan and UNESCO in Okayama and Aichi-Nagoya.
2. In addition to her participation in the UNESCO Conference, she will have courtesy visits and official meetings with the Members of the Government of Japan, dialog with the Representatives of Japanese business circles, and hold handover ceremony of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate for Washoku, traditional dietary cultures of the Japanese.

The Conference consists of two meetings, Stakeholder Meetings from 4 to 8 November in Okayama and Ministerial Level Meetings from 10 to 12 November in Aichi-Nagoya to review DESD the United Nation’s Decade of Education for Sustainable Development from 2005 to 2014 ” and discuss follow-up after 2014.

“Washoku, traditional dietary cultures of the Japanese” was decided to be inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on December 4, 2013, at the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO held in Azerbaijan.
