Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the Announcement of the Results of the Presidential Election in Indonesia

1. On July 22, Ir. H. Joko Widodo was declared the winner of Indonesia’s presidential election by the General Elections Commission. Japan welcomes the overall smooth implementation of this presidential election and offers its congratulations to Indonesia on the election of its next president.
2. Indonesia is not only an irreplaceable friend to Japan，but also an important strategic partner. Toward further strengthening the relationship between the two countries in the future, Japan will continue to work to build strong cooperative ties with the new administration, as it has done with the current administration.
