The Launch of the Environmental Goods Agreement Negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO)

1. On July 8 (same date local time), the representatives of 14 members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), including Japan, announced the launch of negotiations to liberalise trade in environmental goods in Geneva, Switzerland.
2. Building on the List of Environmental Goods that were endorsed in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2012, the willing countries and regions of the WTO will discuss the reduction/elimination of tariffs on the environmental goods in the negotiations.
3. The Government of Japan will proactively work for an early conclusion of the negotiations while coordinating with other countries for sustainable development and green growth.
