Signing of the Tax Information Exchange Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the British Virgin Islands
1. On June 18, 2014, the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the British Virgin Islands for the Exchange of Information relating to Tax Matters was signed in London by H.E. Mr. Keiichi Hayashi, Ambassador of Japan to the U.K. and Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith OBE, the Premier of the British Virgin Islands.
2. This Agreement provides a detailed mechanism for the exchange of tax information between Japan and the British Virgin Island, with a view to preventing cross-border fiscal evasion and tax abuse. It is also expected to contribute to expanding the international information exchange network aiming at the prevention of cross-border fiscal evasion and tax abuse.
3. The Government of Japan and the Government of the British Virgin Islands will notify each other, in writing, of the completion of their respective internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of this Agreement. This Agreement will enter into force on the thirtieth day after the latter of the dates of receipt of the notifications.
