Congratulatory Message from Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe to Mr. Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, on his Presidential Inauguration

On June 7, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Takao Makino, who was visiting Ukraine as the Government of Japan’s Ambassador on Special Mission to attend the inauguration ceremony for Ukraine’s new President, Mr. Petro Poroshenko, delivered a congratulatory message to President Poroshenko from Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe. A summary of the congratulatory message is as follows:

1. I offer my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of Your Excellency’s appointment as President of Ukraine.

2. This presidential election was carried out in a free and fair manner, and Your Excellency was elected through a democratic process that is a vital foundation for the stability of your country and for regional and world peace.

3. It is my heartfelt wish that under Your Excellency’s leadership the people of Ukraine will be united to address the challenges of ensuring your country’s political and economic stability, thus accomplishing peace and prosperity in your country as soon as possible.

4. The Government of Japan, as a friend to your country, intends to continue to proactively support these efforts by your country.
