Signing of the Tax Information Exchange Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China

1. The Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China for the Exchange of Information relating to Tax Matters was signed on March 13, 2014, in Macao by Mr. Hitoshi Noda, Consul-General of Japan in Hong Kong and Mr. Tam Pak Yuen, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

2. This Agreement provides a detailed mechanism for the exchange of tax information between Japan and the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, with a view to preventing cross-border fiscal evasion and tax avoidance. It will be expected to contribute to expanding the international information exchange network aiming at the prevention of cross-border fiscal evasion and tax avoidance.

3. The Government of Japan and the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region will notify each other, in writing, of the completion of their respective internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of this Agreement. The Agreement will enter into force on the thirtieth day after the latter of the dates of receipt of the notifications.
