January 9, 2014

  1. 1. The Government of Japan is deeply concerned about the large number of casualties, including ordinary civilians, arising from the clash between Al Qaeda-linked terrorist organizations and Iraqi security forces that has been taking place in City of Ramadi and Fallujah in Anbar Province in Western Iraq since the end of last year.

    2. Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and the Government of Japan strongly condemns these acts of terrorism, and supports the Government of Iraq in its fight against terrorism. At the same time, the Government of Japan hopes for early settlement of the current situation while minimizing the impact on Iraqi ordinary citizens and their daily lives.

    3. In addition, the Government of Japan hopes for further progress on national reconciliation in Iraq, through peaceful political process which involves all parties concerned.
