Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan on the re-appointment of Ms. Irina Bokova as the Director-General of UNESCO

1. I welcome, on behalf of the Government of Japan, the re-appointment of Ms. Irina Bokova, as the Director-General of UNESCO in the 37th session of UNESCO General Conference.
2. I hope Ms. Bokova, a successor of the reform initiatives by former Director-General Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, will continue managing the organization and conducting programmes and activities steadily based upon her four-year performances.
3. Japan intends to continue its active support to UNESCO and Ms. Bokova.
