Dispatch of Japan Disaster Relief Team (Japan Self-Defense Force Unit) in Response to Typhoon Damage in the Central Philippines

1. On November 12, in response to the request from the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, the Government of Japan decided to dispatch the Japan Self-Defense Force as a Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Team to the Philippines considering the immense damage caused by Typhoon Haiyan.

2. Today, two members of the team (approximately 50 members in total) departed for Manila on a commercial flight and the remaining members of the team will depart for Manila from tomorrow.

3. The SDF members are expected to conduct activities including medical assistance in the Philippines. The team will launch its activities promptly, while assessing the conditions of the affected area.
