Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the legislative elections in the Republic of Guinea

1. Japan welcomes the fact that the voting for the legislative elections in the Republic of Guinea took place on September 28th in a peaceful manner and that the provisional results were announced by the National Independent Electoral Commission on October 18th.
2. Japan considers these elections as an important step towards consolidation of democracy. It also expects that all stakeholders maintain calm and that disputes will be solved through legal means.
3. Japan expects all parties to continue working for the consolidation of democracy, establishment of peace and stability and development. Japan will continue to support the efforts of Guinea for these purposes.
