Japan-El Salvador Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On September 26, commencing at 10:35 a.m., for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Alexandra HILL Tinoco, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador, who is visiting Japan to attend the State Funeral for former Prime Minister Abe. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi expressed his gratitude for Minister Hill's visit to Japan to attend the State Funeral and stated that he would like to work together to address common challenges facing the international community including through measures to combat COVID-19 in El Salvador, as well as to contribute to tackling issues of migration in the Central America, such as poverty and other root causes of migration.
- In response, Minister Hill expressed her heartfelt condolences on the passing of former Prime Minister Abe on behalf of the government and people of El Salvador, as well as her sincere appreciation for Japan's support to address country's development challenges, including COVID-19 and migration issues, and stated that Japan is its important partner.
- The two ministers also discussed regional situations and challenges of the international community. Minister Hayashi stated that Russia's aggression against Ukraine is an act that undermines the very foundation of the international order and that the international community must unite to response in order to end the aggression as soon as possible. In addition, the two ministers concurred to cooperate closely with each other, including on issues of the international arena.
