Japan-UAE Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On September 17, commencing at 2:20 p.m. for 10 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Motegi expressed his gratitude for the support from the UAE during the evacuation of staff members from the Embassy of Japan in Kabul, Afghanistan, and also stated that Japan highly praised the crucial role that the UAE has taken on with regards to Afghanistan, such as temporarily accepting evacuees and providing humanitarian support.
  2. In addition, Minister Motegi stated that he hopes for the success of Expo 2020 Dubai which will take place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the UAE, and will be the first International Registered Exhibition to be held in the Middle East region. Furthermore, the two Ministers confirmed that they will continue to further promote cooperation in a variety of fields towards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the UAE in 2022.
  3. The two Ministers exchanged views on global issues such as climate change, and agreed to continue close coordination.
