Terrorist attacks in Afghanistan (Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

  1. In the evening on August 26 (local time), explosions occurred near Kabul International Airport, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which was atrocious terrorist attacks that killed and injured many, including the US military personnel. We pray for the souls of the victims and express our heartfelt condolences to their bereaved families. We also pray for the swift recovery of those who were injured.
  2. Acts of terrorism cannot be justified for any reason. Japan condemns these terrorist attacks in the strongest possible terms. To prevent such acts of terrorism from being repeated, Japan will work closely with the international community, and work harder to strengthen counter-terrorism efforts.
  3. The situation in Afghanistan is unsettled. We will continue to do our utmost to ensure the safety and support evacuation of remaining Japanese nationals and local staff. At the same time, Japan will continue its efforts for the peace and stability in Afghanistan in coordination with the concerned countries.
