State Minister Kishi attends the Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees

1 Mr. Nobuo Kishi, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, visited the Republic of Uganda from June 22 to 23 and attended the Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees.

2 State Minister Kishi made a statement (PDF) on Japan's policy of comprehensive refugee assistance and its implementation in Uganda at the summit meeting.

3 The Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees was co-hosted by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in light of the fact that Uganda is hosting a great number of refugees from neighboring countries like South Sudan. Participants showed their solidarity to Uganda and discussed assistance for refugees.

4 State Minister Kishi had bilateral talks with the following representatives and shared the willingness to continue the cooperation to tackle the growing refugee crisis.
  • H.E. Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda.
  • Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda. 
  • Mr. Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. 
  • Mr. David Beasley, Executive Director, World Food Programme.
