Exchange of diplomatic notes for the entry into force of the Treaty Between Japan and the Federative Republic of Brazil on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons

1 On January 15, the exchange of diplomatic notes for the entry into force of ''the Treaty Between Japan and the Federative Republic of Brazil on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons'' (signed on January 24, 2014) took place in Brasilia (the Federative Republic of Brazil).
Therefore, the Treaty will enter into force on February 14, 2016 (the thirtieth day after the date of exchange of diplomatic notes).
2 This Treaty sets out procedures between Japan and Brazil for transfering persons on whom sentences of imprisonment have been imposed by a court of the other country back to their own country, provided certain conditions are met. By providing the opportunity for Japanese sentenced persons in Brazil and Brazilian sentenced persons in Japan to serve their sentences in their home countries, this Treaty will contribute to facilitating the betterment, rehabilitation and social reintegration of such persons, and is expected to contribute to advancing bilateral cooperation in the field of criminal law.
