Exchange of Diplomatic Notes concerning the Entry into Force of the Japan-Papua New Guinea Investment Agreement

1. The Exchange of Diplomatic Notes concerning the entry into force of the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea for the Promotion and Protection of Investment (Japan-Papua New Guinea Investment Agreement) took place in Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea on December 18 (Wed) between H.E. Mr. Hiroharu Hashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, and Mr. William Dihm, Acting Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, with Mr. Norio Mitsuya, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and Hon. Rimbink Pato, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea in attendance. With this Exchange of Notes, the Agreement will enter into force on January 17(Fri), 2014.
2. This Agreement provides for comprehensive and detailed matters related to the promotion and protection of investment. Along with the promotion of investment between Japan and Papua New Guinea, the further deepening of the two countries’ economic relations is expected with the entry into force of this Agreement.
