Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on Clashes between Demonstrators and Security Authorities in Cambodia

January 8, 2014
1. Japan is deeply concerned about the situation in Cambodia where security forces and demonstrators clashed in the course of labor disputes on January 3, leading to a number of deaths and injuries.

2. Japan encourages once again all parties to refrain from violence and resolve the issue in a peaceful manner. Japan also strongly hopes that the dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties regarding the election results in July last year will resume in a timely manner, toward an early normalization of the situation.

3. Japan continues to pay close attention to the situation in Cambodia, including from the perspective of ensuring the safety of Japanese companies and nationals.
