Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Presidential Election in the Republic of Mali

  1. Japan congratulates the fact that the second round voting for the presidential election in Republic of Mali took place on August 11 in a peaceful manner with the participation largely superior to the precedent presidential elections, and that Ibrahim Boubakar Keita was elected.

  2. Japan also welcomes that Mali took, with this democratic election, an important step towards establishment of peace and stability and restoration of constitutional order.

  3. Japan expects that all parties concerned will continue working for the consolidation of democracy, establishment of peace and stability and development, and will continue to cooperate proactively for these purposes.
