Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Reports of Use of Chemical Weapons in Syria
August 22, 2013
Japan is deeply concerned by the reports that chemical weapons were used in the outskirts of the Syrian capital city of Damascus on August 21, and that large numbers of citizens were killed, including women and children.
Japan will be paying the utmost attention to this matter, and is hoping that the facts will be clarified promptly through inspection by the United Nations inspection team.
The use of chemical weapons is not permissible under any circumstances, and Japan intends to continue its diplomatic efforts toward the immediate cessation of all violence in coordination with the international community.
