Messages of Condolences from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida for the Coal Mine Fire Accident in the Republic of Turkey
1. On May 13, a fire occurred at a coal mine in Soma in the Republic of Turkey's western province of Manisa, and according to H.E. Mr. Taner YILDIZ, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, who visited the site, as of 10 a.m. on May 14 Japan time, 166 workers had died, four were in a critical condition and 80 were injured, and the rescue operations are continuing.
2. In light of this, on May 14 Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Fumio Kishida sent messages respectively to H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, and H.E. Mr. Ahmet DAVUTOGLU, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, expressing their deepest sympathies and praying for speedy progress with the rescue from here forward.
