Telephone Talks between Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and U.S. Ambassador to Japan Ms. Caroline Kennedy

On January 25, commencing from 1:00 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and commencing from 1:45 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, upon request from the U.S. side each held telephone talks with Ms. Caroline Kennedy, U.S. Ambassador to Japan, in light of the hostage incident of Japanese individuals in Syria.

Ambassador Kennedy mentioned the hostage incident of Japanese individuals in Syria, expressed her heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Haruna Yukawa’ s family and said that she prays for the safe release of Mr. Kenji Goto. She also stated that the United States would like to continue to work together with Japan as the closest friend and ally.
