Japan-U.S.-ROK Foreign Ministers' Telephone Meeting

On November 25th, commencing at midnight for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a Japan-U.S.-Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting with the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America, and His Excellency Dr. Park Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. The three Ministers strongly condemned North Korea’s launch on November 21st as it is a flagrant violation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions which prohibit any launch using ballistic missile technology, even if it is characterized as a satellite launch. They once again shared the view that ballistic missile launches by North Korea, which are in an unprecedented frequency and in new manners, constitute a grave and imminent threat to the regional security and pose a clear and serious challenge to the international community.
  2. As affirmed at the Japan-U.S.-ROK Foreign Ministers' Meeting on November 14th, the three Ministers also reaffirmed that they will continue to work closely together bilaterally and trilaterally among Japan, the U.S. and the ROK toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions, including on enhancement of regional deterrence including trilateral security cooperation, responses at the UN Security Council, and international coordination including cooperation with like-minded countries.
  3. The three Ministers also exchanged views on the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine and concurred on working closely together among Japan, the U.S. and the ROK on the situation in the Middle East.
