Japan-Uzbekistan Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 26, commencing at 5:00 p.m. for approximately 40 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Mr. Bakhtiyor SAIDOV, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Saidov congratulated Minister KAJIKAWA on her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, having worked as a member of the Japan-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Friendship League, to which Minister KAJIKAWA expressed her gratitude. Minister Kajikawa mentioned that the international community is currently facing serious challenges, such as Russia's prolonged aggression against Ukraine and a new crisis over Israel and Palestine, and explained that Japan is committed to a world filled with cooperation, not division and confrontation, and has been addressing urgent issues including the food and energy crisis. Minister Kajikawa expressed her intention to develop bilateral cooperation under the strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, with which Japan has historical and friendly relations.
- Referring to bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, Minister Kamikawa conveyed that Japan is coordinating to provide loans which would contribute to achieving sound finance and strengthening social stability of Uzbekistan. In response, Minister Saidov expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support and expressed his hope to further deepen bilateral relations, including in the field of clean energy.
- The two ministers discussed the significance of holding the Summit of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue next year, which would mark the 20th anniversary of the start of the Dialogue.
- Minister Kamikawa explained that the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea continues to be conducted in accordance with international standards and practices after taking all possible safety precautions.
- The two ministers concurred to work closely together to further develop friendly relations between the two countries and to address regional issues.
