Japan-Iran Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October 17th, commencing at 5:05 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss the situation surrounding Palestine and Israel. The overview is as follows:

  1. The two ministers held frank discussion regarding the situation surrounding Israel and Palestine. Minister Kamikawa stressed that Minister Kamikawa stressed that 1) she is paying close attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with deep concern, 2) she has been unequivocally condemning the recent terror attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially the attacks on, and kidnapping of, innocent civilians, which cannot be justified for any reason, 3) she is deeply saddened by the loss of lives of so many innocent civilians, and that it is important for the numerous civilians being held hostage to be released as soon as possible, and to calm down the situation.
  2. The two ministers agreed on the importance of working together to improve humanitarian access in the Gaza Strip and the importance of the international community to provide humanitarian assistance in unity.
  3. In addition, Minister Kamikawa called on Iran to play a role in urging Hamas and others to calm down the situation.
  4. The two Ministers concurred to continue close communication on the matter.
