Foreign Minister Hayashi’s Meeting with Ambassadors and Representatives of Southeast Asian Countries to Japan
On February 21, 2023, commencing at 3:25p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Ambassadors and representatives of Southeast Asian countries to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Hayashi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to take the lead in supporting the mainstreaming of the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-pacific (AOIP) in order to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
- Minister Hayashi also stated that Japan would like to set out a new vision for future ASEAN-Japan relations at the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, which will be held in Tokyo around December. Minister Hayashi sought the understanding and cooperation of each country to this end.
- Furthermore, Minister Hayashi and the Ambassadors and representatives discussed among others Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, one of the most pressing issues at the moment, and agreed to continue close cooperation with each other.
