Meeting between Foreign Minister HAYASHI, and Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Organization

On August 1, commencing at 2:40 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy visit by Ms. Sheam Satkuru, Executive Director of the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO). The summary of the meeting is as follows:
- Minister Hayashi welcomed the courtesy visit and stated that ITTO, the only international organization overseeing legal and sustainable management of tropical forests, is an important partner for Japan, and Japan attaches great importance to its work as a host country. He also stated his hope that ITTO will play an effective role in responding to emerging needs, including addressing climate change, as it pertains to ensuring sustainable supply chains.
- In response, Ms. Satkuru expressed her gratitude for the host country’s support to ITTO, and stated that she would like to cooperate further with Japan to facilitate legal and sustainable forest management and sustainable use of timber in the tropics.
