Election of Mr. METOKI Masahiko as Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU)

- On August 25, the election of the Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was held, and a Japanese candidate, Mr. METOKI Masahiko, was elected as the next Director General of the International Bureau. Japan welcomes Mr. METOKI’s election.
- Mr. METOKI will be the sixth Japanese national who is elected as a head of the United Nations Organizations. From the perspectives of enhancing Japan’s presence in terms of the rule-making in the international community as well as strengthening the relationship between Japan and the international organizations, it is significant that talented Japanese persons play active roles in important positions of the international organizations.
- The election of Mr. METOKI is a testament to the international community’s high appreciation of his exceptional qualification as well as Japan’s contributions in the international postal services.
- Japan intends to continue to make proactive contributions, in collaboration with the UPU, to the promotion of fair and open rule-making to support international logistics including the fast-growing e-commerce industry.
