Message of condolences from Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu
following the damage caused by the earthquake occurred in Haiti
On August 15th, regarding the damage resulting from the earthquake occurred in Haiti on the 14th, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered the following message of condolences to H.E. Dr. Claude Joseph, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Republic of Haiti.
"I am deeply grieved and saddened by the news of the earthquake that struck the western part of the Republic of Haiti affecting a large number of Haitian citizens. I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and sincerely wish for the quick recovery of the people affected as well as the prompt reconstruction of the damaged areas.
Japan has also suffered from numerous earthquakes. Fully understanding the various pains associated with natural disasters, we have supported each other thus far including the 2010 massive earthquake of Haiti. I would like to convey that Japan is ready to provide as much support as possible that Haiti needs while taking into account the needs on the ground."
