New measures for border enforcement (Quarantine enforcement and suspention of“Business Track” and “Residence Track”)

 January 13, the Government of Japan decided the following (1. and 2.) as new measures for border enforcement.

  1.   For the time being, quarantine enforcement measures will be applied to all those who enter Japan.
     With this measure, all those who enter Japan are requested, for the time being, to pledge to refrain from using public transportation for 14 days, quarantine at home or other designated areas for the remaining period of 14 days, retain the location data, and provide the location data to the health centers or other institutions, if requested. In case of violation, they may be subject to detention under Quarantine Act and their names and other information that contributes to preventing the spread of infection may be made public.

  2.   Until the state of emergency declaration is lifted, the operation of “Business Track” and “Residence Track” with all the countries/regions will be suspended.
     With this measure, the new entry of foreign nationals into Japan under these two tracks will not be permitted, and the relaxation of restrictions on movement during the period of 14-day quarantine through “Business Track” will no longer be permitted for Japanese nationals and foreign nationals with the status of residence.
