Pardoning of Reuters Journalists in Myanmar

  1. 　Japan welcomes the release on May 7 of two Reuters journalists, who are Myanmar nationals and had been detained for violating the Official Secrets Act, following the amnesty granted by the Government of the Myanmar.
  2. 　Japan had called for the Myanmar Government to take appropriate actions in relation to this matter, based on the recognition that it is necessary to respect universal values such as freedom of press in all countries.
  3. 　Japan hopes that Myanmar will further advance its democratic nation-building.
