The Parliamentary Election in the Republic of Maldives

1. The Parliamentary Election was held in the Republic of Maldives on April 6th. Japan dispatched an election observer mission composed of 8 members led by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, H. E. Mr. Norikazu SUZUKI, and the mission visited polling stations. The Japanese election observer mission found that the voting on 6th in the areas where it covered was generally held in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner.
2. Japan expects that, through the elections, democracy will be further consolidated in the Maldives and Japan intends to cooperate with the Maldives for its sustainable development and stability.
