Thirteenth Senior Officials Meeting of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue

  1.  On November 26, the thirteenth Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue was held in Tokyo. The Japanese side consisted of Mr. Hideki Uyama, Special Representative in charge of Central Asia (Ambassador), Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the head of delegation and representatives from Cabinet Secretariat, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Minstry of Finance, Ministery of Health, Labor and Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, Foresty and Fishery, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Financial Services Agency and Japan Tourism Agency. The Central Asian countries were represented by their high-level officials listed at the bottom of this press release.
  2.  At this SOM, participants exchanged views on such topics as promoting practical cooperation with a focus on tourism, regional security, regional cooperation, trade and investment and development, which are areas of focus in the Dialogue. They also talked about the future direction of the Dialogue. All the discussion was made in a manner reflecting the outcome of the previous SOM, which was held in this January in Tajikistan and the progress of cooperation thereafter.
  3.  With regards to promoting practical cooperation in tourism, based on the results from the fourth experts meeting and the second Tokyo Dialogue, which were held this year within the framework of “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, participants discussed measures for promoting tourism and attracting more tourists taken by each country. It was agreed to accelerate consideration about possible concrete cooperation in tourism and other areas toward next Ministerial meeting.
  4.  Participants actively discussed the agenda and outcome products at the seventh foreign ministers’ meeting of “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, which will be held in Tajikistan in the future.
