 On October 11, commencing at 2:10 pm, for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Kenji Yamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Michael LODGE, Secretary-General of International Seabed Authority (ISA).

  1.  At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada welcomed Mr. Lodge on his visit to Japan. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Yamada further stated that Japan appreciates the role of ISA in terms of the rule of law at sea as one of the important pillars of its foreign policies, and Japan will continue to contribute to activities of ISA as a member of the Council of ISA.
  2.  The Secretary-General expressed appreciation to Japan’s contribution to the activities of ISA to date, and expressed his expectations that Japan continues to cooperate with ISA in advancing technologies in exploitation and protection of environment towards the future development of mineral resources in the deep seabed.
