Comment by the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Decision to Award the Nobel Peace Prize to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
October 11, 2013
1. The Government of Japan heartily welcomes the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
2. Since its foundation in 1997, the OPCW has made great contributions to total prohibition and non-proliferation of chemical weapons globally.
3.Particularly, in its response to the issue of use of chemical weapons in present Syria, the OPCW has led the efforts by the international society for complete abolition of the chemical weapons in Syria, together with the United Nations. I also highly appreciate such roles of the OPCW.
4. The Government of Japan would like to continue supporting the efforts by the OPCW and making as much cooperation and contribution as possible to their efforts.
