 Eleventh Senior Officials Meeting of the "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue

 On March 25, the eleventh Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue was held in Tokyo. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At this SOM, participants exchanged views on promoting practical cooperation in the transportation and logistics field, topics for the sixth foreign ministers’ meeting such as security, trade and investment, development, and human cultural cooperation, and the way forward for the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, in light of discussions from the previous SOM and this year’s third experts meeting and eighth Tokyo Dialogue of “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue and as preparation for the foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in 2016.
  2. With regards to promoting practical cooperation in the transportation and logistics field, Central Asian countries submitted proposals based on the results from the experts meeting and Tokyo Dialogue and it was agreed to review these proposals with relevant stakeholders.
  3. Exchanges of views about topics for the sixth foreign ministers’ meeting placed emphasis on narrowing down the topics for discussion at and expected results retaking into account discussions from the previous SOM.
  4. Regarding the way forward for the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue, participants conducted a lively exchange of views on the way to prepare for the next foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled to be held in 2016 and agreed that Tajikistan will be the next chair country.
