Opening Remarks:

Foreign Press Secretary KITAMURA Toshihiro: I have one announcement regarding the holding of the Overseas Safety Measures Seminar at the outset.

On Tuesday, October 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) will co-host the Overseas Safety Measures Seminar in Sendai City.

While the international situation becomes increasingly unstable and an increase in natural disasters has been observed, cross-border travel has been rapidly recovering. For example, in 2024, the number of Japanese nationals departing the country exceeded 10 million for the first time in five years. Under these circumstances, the likelihood of Japanese nationals falling victim to terrorism, abduction, and ordinary crimes has significantly increased.

At this seminar, we will explain to companies operating overseas the current situation of security threats overseas, including terrorism, abduction, ordinary crimes, disasters, and infectious diseases. We will also provide information on government efforts and the safety measures required of companies. We are currently recruiting participants for both in-person and online formats. If you are interested, please register through the URL listed on MOFA’s Overseas Safety Website.

Protecting Japanese nationals traveling and staying overseas is one of the most important responsibilities of the Japanese government. Through these initiatives, MOFA will continue to make efforts to ensure the safety and security of Japanese nationals overseas.
