State Funeral for the Late Former Prime Minister Abe

Asahi Shimbun, Aibara: I would like to ask about the state funeral for former Prime Minister Abe which is scheduled for the end of this month. Yesterday, Prime Minister Kishida told a group of reporters that he estimates that more than190 foreign delegations will attend, and that about 50 top-level leaders require reception. The date of the state funeral is approaching. When will MOFA announce the names and other details of the 50 leaders?

Ms. ONO Hikariko, Press Secretary: From the perspectives of relations with other countries, security, and other such aspects, I would like to refrain from answering at this point about what is being coordinated regarding the attendance by foreign dignitaries planned for the state funeral. The Government of Japan will make an announcement at the appropriate time in an appropriate manner.

Asahi Shimbun, Aibara: You have mentioned that the number of expected foreign dignitaries is 50 but if the number of leaders increases as a result of coordination with other countries and exceeds 50, is there any possibility that the cost may expand further than the current estimate of 600 million yen?

Press Secretary Ono: With regard to expenses, if the number of foreign delegations that must be welcomed changes, then the expenses would change accordingly too. The Government of Japan will carefully examine and then release the final figure after the state funeral.

Mainichi Shimbun, Aoki: Are communications with various countries about attendance at the state funeral going well? Or is it difficult to receive answers from them?

Press Secretary Ono: I would like to refrain from speaking about the details as this pertains to diplomatic communication. As I stated earlier, the Government of Japan will announce the actual attendees at an appropriate time in an appropriate manner.
